The AdventHealth Daytona Hospital project was a vertical expansion atop an existing and fully operational hospital. Since the existing roof could not take active construction loads and to avoid disrupting active floors with reshores, the forming system required a unique approach. We chose to use column-hung tables.A column hung system transfers the construction loads to the columns which eliminates slab loading.Adding to the complexity, the roof level cantilevered 16’ away from the floors below and was 115’ above ground level which required very tall, built in place, scaffold towers. The design of this scaffolding had to be designed to withstand the wind load of a coastal environment. It took 8 weeks to erect, pour the roof areas, and dismantle more than 1,000 scaffold frames.During this operation we had zero lost time injuries.
