We are committed to ensuring everyone returns home safely to their families at the end of the day.

SAFETY COMES FROM ORGANIZATION

Building concrete structures can be dangerous work. At UFI, we take our responsibility for safety very seriously. We are proud to have achieved a superior 0.72 Mod Rating from the NCCI, but our goals for maintaining a safe work environment extend far beyond this individual metric.

Creating a true culture of safety starts at the top, with a dedicated senior management team. It flows down through our on-site safety coordinators, superintendents, foremen, and all jobsite personnel. We take pride in the fact that 90% of our labor is self-performed by UFI employees, all of whom are highly trained and accountable. We also work closely with General Contractors to ensure we are part of a holistic jobsite safety plan.

It is our policy that all jobsite employees start each day with a focus on safety via our Pre-Task Planning/Job Hazard Analysis Meetings. In these meetings, our personnel learn what to expect for the day, proactively address all potential hazards, and create a plan to perform each task safely. Every UFI employee is empowered to take ownership of our safety culture, which rewards a “speak up” mentality and underscores the goal that everyone goes home safe at the end of the day.

We further enhance our safety culture through the ongoing learning, development, and constant evaluation of best practices. In 2020, we opened our 2,500 sf Safety School located at our yard facility in Groveland, FL. From this facility, we conduct comprehensive training curricula and ensure that all our Superintendents are OSHA 30-Hour and First Aid/CPR/Blood Borne Pathogen trained, and all Assistant Superintendents are OSHA 10-Hour and First Aid/CPR/Blood Borne Pathogen trained.

Additional highlights of our safety program include:

  • We employ a Safety Coordinator for each project, many of whom are bilingual
  • We create and enforce a Site-Specific Safety Plan for every project, which addresses topics like fall protection, fall rescue, silica dust, hoisting, and much more.
  • We ensure 100% fall protection on every site.
  • We verify that only trained and authorized personnel are operating equipment via our unique QR Code badging system, which tracks credentials for every employee.
  • We are committed to a drug-free work environment and have a zero-tolerance policy.
  • We conduct pre-employment and random drug testing throughout employment.
  • We perform regular jobsite safety audits designed to ensure safety policy is uniformly enforced and to provide continuous training for all UFI jobsite employees.
