After completing the Richard M. Shulze Family Outpatient Center in 2015, UFI was retained to build a new 128-bed expansion hospital on the same medical campus. The Moffitt Expansion Hospital stands ten stories high with nearly 500,000 sf of elevated deck. In addition to the hospital, UFI’s scope also included a three-story, 30,000 sf central utility plant and a bridge spanning across McKinley Drive which connects both medical facilities.
The elevated floors were designed as a flat slab and beam system and were built utilizing a flying truss system that moved both vertically and horizontally to cover the large footprint of the building. Requiring up to three crews simultaneously, this project exceeded its already aggressive schedule, coming in two weeks ahead of schedule.
