Orlando Health brings a new, 300 bed, full service hospital to a much needed area south of Lakeland. This 8 story hospital had a massive 170,000 sf footprint. With such a large footprint Universal Forming utilized the structure’s expansion joint to construct the building in 2 phases. The Emergency department was 1st phase, and was about 30% of the overall footprint. We were able to top out this portion of the structure on week 18. This gave our client a significant area to start their build out, and dry in, while we continued working on the remaining portion of the structure. The contracted project schedule was 51 weeks. Due to our forming system we were able to complete this project 4 weeks ahead of schedule.

This project also required a structural slab on grade due to poor subsurface conditions. We poured a 10″ thick structural slab on grade with perimeter grade beams. The slab on grade alone was over 600 tons of rebar and 7,000 cy of concrete. 75% of the slab on grade was poured prior to level 8 top out. This again allowed our client to proceed with precast erection ahead of schedule.
